Blog Carnival: Introduction part II

Let's move on to the 2nd half of the awesome carnival girls! They are Salla (Playing with Polish) and Sammy (The Nailasaurus)!

Salla

Hi, I'm Salla, the (mostly) proud owner of a blog called Playing with Polish. I'm from Finland, a land where polish costs a ridiculous amount of euros.

I got into nail polish during winter 2008/2009. Around that time I also moved to the States for a few months and due to polish been really cheap there, soon my collection exploded in my hands. At first I wasn't interested in nail art because my artistic skills are absolutely at zero, or so I thought. I got my first nail art stripers around April 2009 and started to play around with them. Then I realised that nail art isn't just about painting koala bears on your nails, it can be a lot of other things too.

When I moved back to Finland before fall 2009, I started to play around with an idea of starting a blog. I've always been a writer and I love blogging so it seemed just right. I decided to give it a go and see if it would be fun, and well, here I am, a year and a half later, still blogging and enjoying every minute of it.

I started my blog as a girl with her nail art stripers, and I still love using them. Now I also do own different stamping plates and such, but usually the looks that I like the most are done with stripers.

My blog is just a fun place for me to share my passion but I also wanna show people how you don't have to be a great artist to do pretty nails. I do have eye for colors and abstract things, but the koala bears, I couldn't paint them on my nails even if my life depended on that.

My obsession with nails began when I discovered The Daily Nail blog around Autumn 2009. Through her daily posts, I found out about Konad and fell in love with the designs. I got my hands on my first Konad plates a few months later.

I started searching for more bloggers that regularly posted ‘Konadicures’ and slowly built up my reading list.

However, I was still desperate to see more so I figured that there must be other people like me out there who were more interested in seeing the stamping designs and nail art than swatches and reviews. So, on the first day of April 2010 when I was procrastinating on my school work, I decided to start my own blog.

The premise was simple – I would post a picture of my nails every single day and they would always be adorned with Konad. At this point, I probably had around 20 polishes. Now, one year on, I’m scared to count all the bottles in my collection but the total must have surpassed 150. I suppose this isn’t really a lot for nail blogger but it’s an awfully large amount for a 20 year old student who often complains about not having enough money to buy food!

As my blog has matured, and myself along with it, I’ve started experimenting with other forms of nail art and just got in to freehanding although I’m not that great at it yet. But as I always say, practice makes perfect.

As you may have guessed from my rambling, my specialty is stamping manicures. My collection of stamping plates includes Konads, Fauxnads and the Bundle Monster Plates though I tend to use the Bundle Monsters most often. I have never used a Konad special polish for stamping, instead preferring to hunt down regular polishes that work for stamping. Some of my favourite stamps are the patterns which cover the whole nail, so to give you a quick taste of my style, here is one of my favourites from the archives.

Now you have met the awesome quartet that will be answering the questions you send through question form! I bet most of you guys have heard of each girl, am I right?

I hope there will be plenty of questions, so we can get this little project going. :) Keep in mind, this is all done for you, dear readers! Take an advantage of it, send in your questions and concerns, and hopefully we'll be able to create a nice little FAQ for nail art!

  3. Nemo: Glad you like the idea! I know it was a bit confusing at first. Hopefully people will get this in May when we do the first post! :)

Sanna: Ideana on siis, että esitellyt neljä bloggaajaa vastailevat lukijoiden esittämiin kysymyksiin. Näin lukijat pääsevät kysymään asioita, joita eivät ole viitsineet/kehdanneet kysyä blogin pitäjältä suoraan. :) Koska mukana on neljä bloggaajaa, joilla jokaisella on "oma alue", he vastaavat kysymyksiin kyseisestä näkökulmasta. Tarkoituksena on siis koota FAQ-osio yleiseen hyötykäytöön.
